TV Creators Shouldn’t Draw Inspiration from George Lucas’ Most Meddlesome Behavior

What if I were to tell you that you do remember seeing a Starbucks cup on Game of Thrones? In my best Morpheus impression, I tell you that you’re not wrong, but you won’t see the visual gaffe if you rewatch the fourth episode of season 8 on HBO. After the coffee chain’s cup was left in front of Daenerys in an important scene, social media users had a field day roasting the error. 24-hours later, the creators of GoT edited the cup and removed it from the scene. You can still find evidence of the original on YouTube, but the official episode is “corrected.” That’s a lot of control creators have over the content and small changes can mess with our memory and our trust in media.
The conversation was recently re-ignited when Stranger Things creators Ross and Matt Duffer explained they’d like to “George Lucas,” or edit a scene from an already released episode, in order to please fans.
